Doctors John and Sharon Franklin owned and operated The Animal Hospital in Lynchburg, Virginia, from 1985-1999. Their veterinary practice focused on the well-being of the animal family member. John was a Board Certified Veterinary Practitioner in Companion Animals with a special interest in surgery and dentistry. Sharon's special interests included oncology and neurology.
Throughout their veterinary career, Sharon and John attended a variety of national and international meetings, including the annual North American Veterinary Conference and The National Institute for the Clinical Application of Behavioral Medicine Neuropsychoimmunology Conference, a multi-disciplinary meeting for human and veterinary health-care professionals. They have also studied holistic medicine and healing with Asian and Peruvian teachers. Doctors John and Sharon believe that health and wellness includes the body, mind and spirit.
John graduated from The University of Virginia in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction with a focus on religious studies and government. He received a Bachelor of Science in biomedical science from Texas A&M University in 1975 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978.
Sharon graduated from The University of Virginia in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Psychology. Her main interest was Neuropsychology. She graduated from The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in June 1985, and was the recipient of the Arlington Animal Hospital Award for her demonstrated aptitude in Small Animal Medicine.
After the Franklins sold their veterinary practice in 1999, Sharon took her aviation training to the professional level and became a Certified Gold Seal Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, and Multi engine Instructor. She earned her Airline Transport Pilot certificate and Citation-500 Jet rating. After a stint in the airlines, she is now a Gold Seal Flight Instructor.
John began a five year course of study in health and well-being for people. He is a practitioner of Zero Balancing and Feldenkrais. He has also studiedEsalen Massotherapy. In his practice, he helps clients find relief from pain and other health issues. His book Gift of the Jaguar weaves the essence of contemporary healing techniques with the ancient wisdom of Andean healers. In addition to Sharon and their two cats, intuitive healing, writing, and sharing Peru are among John's greatest joys.
First introduced to Peruvian and Andean healing traditions in the early 90's, John and Sharon lead groups of western-trained health-care practitioners and others to work in ceremony with indigenous healers in the sacred sites of Peru, such as Machu Picchu.
Sharon works with people and their animals to enhance physical energy, mental alertness, and emotional wellness. In 2007, Sharon experienced a profound personal healing and shares her experience and passion for wellness to her healing practice.
